The Big Question

Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

Jesus replied, "If you want to enter life, obey the commandments." (Mt 19:16-17)

Which Commandments? The Ten Commandments? The 613 Commandments found in the Hebrew Scriptures?

Jesus replied "if you love me keep MY Commandments."

By saying MY Commandments he is eliminating all prior ones. All commandments prior to the birth of Yahshuah were viewed

in the darkness. Before Yahshuah there were sparks of light, but he brought the full light. Before Yahshuah, people groped blindly

and had a distorted image of God, YHVH appeared as a jealous, angry, war God who unleashed a genocide upon Canaan. He was

a king who rode the storm clouds with fire coming from his nostrils. He showed no mercy but avenged each sin to the nth degree.

He could never seem to get enough animal sacrifices and his altars flowed with blood by the gallons.

And Then...

And then Yahshuah arrived with the light to announce that the shadows were gone and that God was a God of love and Peace

to whom  we could come to as to a father. He was willing to forgive us, but only required that we also forgive others. He did

not want sacrifices of animals or men. He offered immortality to all who would keep the commandments as now brought into the light by Yahshuah.

Yahshuah's commandments

  1. Repent, turn back to Father, turn away from the evil world.

  2. Love Father with all you mind, body and heart.

  3. Love your neighbor as yourself.

  4. Renounce the world and all it tempts you with. Hate your life in this world. Surrender parents, spouses, children, lands, and your own life to be with Father.

  5. Love your enemies.

  6. Believe Yahshuah is the uniquely begotten human son of God.

  7. Believe that Yahshuah was a man not a god, nor a god/man hybrid, nor a spirit, nor an angel. Yahshuah only existed as an idea in God's mind before he was born as a human in Bethlehem.

  8. Believe and obey the Gospel of the Kingdom Yahshuah taught.

  9. God wants to establish his kingdom of peace and love in the hearts of humans.

  10. Believe that Yahshuah was God's special anointed messenger, the Messiah, and is the only door to salvation, for he alone conquered sin and death, rose from the grave and now is God's appointed ruler over all things visible and invisible

  11. Confess that you are a follower of Yahshuah by teaching his message to others. >Receive the Spirit birth from above. Receive a portion of Father himself; a portion of His Spirit.

Did he end what most call the Ten Commandments? Yes and No. He ended them as we knew them in the

Hebrew Scriptures by  bringing  them into fuller light. He removed the sting of death by removing

the penalties of death connected to them.  He ended the system  of slavery. He also freed us

in regards to the Sabbath. He actually got to the heart of the Ten and  dealt not only with external

behavior,  but  the internal motives showing that disobedience is an internal spiritual act long  before

it becomes an  outward act of disobedience.

He showed us we can conquer sin.

I have only listed a dozen of the commandments but the burden for finding the rest and obeying them to eternal life lies with you.

Read the words of Yahshuah (not the apostles) and obey them.

He said "My words are spirit and life. Whoever keeps my words will never see death."

Back to the question

"Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

If you want to enter life, obey the commandments." (Mt 19:16-17)

"Which ones?" the man inquired.

Jesus replied,
  1. " Do not murder,
  2. do not commit adultery,
  3. do not steal,
  4. do not give false testimony,
  5. honor your father and mother, and
  6. love your neighbor as yourself."
"All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure

in heaven. Then come, follow me." (MT 16:18-20)

Just as the prodigal son had to leave the pigsty in the far country to get home to his father, you must forsake everything

in this pigsty of a world to reach eternal life. The way is difficult. The gate is narrow and few there be that find it." The brave

with great effort are forcing their way towards the kingdom. Strive to enter in. Many are called but few become the chosen.

You can keep all the rest of the commandments, but if you do not obey the command to forsake and renounce everything

in this world, you will never reach the Kingdom. You must love Father so much that everything in this world becomes

and obstacle to your true love.
